Feng Shui'ing Your Christmas Decor

FSYS Blog - FS Christmas Decor
As a feng shui consultant, I think of home decor in terms of the Five Elements. To create balance and harmony in a space, all five elements need to present in equal amounts. Oftentimes, people’s homes will prominently feature one of the elements, like wood, or a certain color will monopolize the space, like the popular all white trend. This creates energy imbalances.

As we decorate our homes, it’s important to include all five of the elements: Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal and Water. Following are lists of traditional Christmas decorations categorized by their element. Keep this mind as you shop for home decor and deck the halls this holiday season.

  • Evergreen Tree (Living)
  • Pine Boughs
  • Fir Wreath
  • Pinecones
  • Potted Plants (Living)
  • Stacked Wood
  • Greenery (Faux)

  • String Lights
  • Star or Angel Tree Topper
  • Candles
  • Fire in the fireplace or wood burning stove
  • Santa & Elves
  • Nativity Scene
  • Red Poinsettias (Silk)

EARTH

  • Metal Sleigh Bells & Jingle Bells

WATER

NOTES

Plants have to be living or natural for them to be considered a representation of the Wood element. If a faux Christmas tree is green, the Wood color is represented but it doesn't contribute much chi to the space.

While real poinsettias represent the Wood element, a silk poinsettia that is red contributes Fire element energy to the space instead.

Something like a white paper snowflake ornament represents Wood (paper), Water (snow) and Metal (white). If it's lighted, then the Fire element is also represented.

Lighted Christmas trees, red decor, candles and fireplaces all represent the Fire element. In 2022, the best locations for your Christmas tree are the NE, East & SE. During the month of December, there must be absolutely no open flames or red decor in the South and Center of your home.
